Welcome to MyCourses, the new portal web site for Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. This page describes what you need to begin using MyCourses. View the Features page to learn about the many online tools available within MyCourses.



Requirements for MyCourses

Computers
    Both Windows (98, ME, 2000) and MacOS (8.6 or higher) are supported.
Browsers
    Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher is recommended. However, Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape 4.0 or newer versions will also work. JavaScript & Cookies must be enabled.
Cookies and Pop-Up Blockers
    Cookies are required for using MyCourses. If you are having trouble logging into MyCourses or eCommons, cookies may be disabled or blocked for this site. Make sure cookies are enabled and allowed for the site http://mycourses.med.harvard.edu or http://eCommons.med.harvard.edu.

Plugins Digitized Lecture Video
    New Pathway lectures are digitized and available to Students and Faculty through MyCourses. Click here to view answers to frequently asked questions about MyCourses Video.
Internet Connection
    A high speed internet connection may be required to view some of the large multimedia files in MyCourses. Numerous computers, which can be used to access these files, are available 24 hours a day in the MEC and in Vanderbilt Hall.
Mobile Access
    Several hand-held devices are supported by MyCourses. Click here to learn more about connecting your PDA to MyCourses.
MyCourses Account
    Your MyCourses username and password are the same as your eCommons login. Click here for information about obtaining an eCommons account, or request temporary access to MyCourses.
Guest Courses
    A guest course can be created for HMS faculty who need to host a course that falls outside the normal registrar system. To apply for a guest course click here to download the Application.
Faculty User Guide
    MyCourses offers several benefits that enhance and streamline the educational environment at HMS. While the MyCourses portal web site is not difficult to learn and navigate, the MyCourses User Guide offers additional insights to many of the most common tools used when adding materials to your course.
Tutorial User Guide
    Similar to the Faculty User Guide, the Tutorial User Guide offers additional insights to all of the tutorial-specific features.
Dean's Innovation Fund
    The Dean’s IT Innovation Fund was established by Joseph Martin in 1998 to encourage the application of new technologies to education, research and faculty development. These funds are administered through the Center for Educational Technology and are allocated by the Center’s MyCourses Steering Committee. Click here for more information on the application process.
Center for Educational Technology Projects
    The HMS Center for Educational Technology assists teaching faculty in developing educational technologies to support medical education through MyCourses. A full range of digital services and programming staff resources are available for special projects. To request a project complete the CET MyCourses Project Requisition Form.
Visiting the Center for Educational Technology
    Harvard Medical School is pleased to welcome faculty from other medical schools to visit its campus. These one and a half-day sessions will provide professional educators with an overview of its educational programs. Participants will be introduced to case-based pedagogy, methods of curricular innovation and assessment, incorporation of educational technology to enhance student learning, and the governance and course management structure at Harvard Medical School.
